Clover Pricing: Compare the Whole Quote
Clover pricing varies by plan and by the processor or bank that sells it. A device quote alone does not describe the full cost of accepting payments. Ask for hardware, software, processing and contract obligations in writing so you can compare offers on the same basis.
Short answer
What makes up Clover pricing?
The total includes hardware you buy or lease, a monthly software plan, processing charges, app subscriptions and accessories. Contract terms can add obligations when you cancel or change providers. The seller sets the processing rate and often the equipment and plan pricing, so compare complete written quotes rather than device names.
Separate ownership from a lease
Ask whether the hardware quote transfers ownership to your business. If it is a lease, request the separate agreement and identify the company collecting payments. Ending processing does not necessarily end an equipment obligation. Read the lease cancellation language before agreeing to either arrangement.
Confirm the exact model, included accessories and any installation charges. List the equipment your staff needs at the counter or tableside. A quote that leaves out necessary accessories is not directly comparable with a package that includes them.
Map software and apps to actual tasks
Monthly software plans vary by plan and seller. Explain how you take orders, manage sales and handle checkout, then ask the seller to identify the plan that supports those tasks. Request a demonstration of any feature that is essential to your workflow.
App add ons can have their own subscriptions. Ask whether an app is included, optional or necessary for a promised function. Find out who bills for it and whether removing it changes access to business records. Include recurring accessory services if the seller proposes them.
Compare processing using the same activity
The bank or processor selling the system sets the processing rate. Quotes may describe charges differently, making a headline rate a poor substitute for a complete schedule. Give each seller the same picture of your card sales and payment methods when requesting an estimate.
Ask the seller to distinguish its markup from interchange and card network assessments. Include transaction charges and account fees in the comparison. A counter payment, an online order and a manually entered payment may be priced differently under the proposed agreement.
Request a quote you can check later
Keep the written proposal with the final contract and compare them before signing. If a promised feature or waived charge is missing, ask for a corrected document. Do not treat a sales conversation as a replacement for the agreement.
- Who is the processor, and who handles support for equipment and software?
- Which hardware, accessories, software plan and apps are included?
- What processing charges and recurring account fees apply to my payment methods?
- Can the device move if I change processors, and what cancellation or renewal terms apply?
- Which charges can change, and how will I receive notice?
Use your current costs as the baseline
Gather a recent statement along with software, app and equipment bills. Compare the proposed package with the functions you use now, not just the line the salesperson highlights. Note any separate obligations that would continue after switching.

Common questions
Still not sure? Ask us directly.
Why can matching Clover devices have different quotes?
Sellers can package hardware, software and processing differently. The equipment model does not determine the contract or the total recurring bill.
Is buying hardware the whole cost?
No. Budget for the software plan, processing, required accessories and any app subscriptions. Review the agreement for charges tied to cancellation or renewal.
Should I compare a lease with an equipment purchase?
Yes, but compare ownership and cancellation obligations as well as payments. Ask whether the lease continues if you stop processing with that seller.
Can you publish a universal Clover price?
A universal price would not describe every seller agreement. We use your statement and the proposed terms to explain a relevant quote instead.
