Used POS System for Sale

A used POS system for sale can look ready to run while still needing processor approval, software access, or missing parts. We do not sell equipment. We help merchants evaluate processing and POS options as a referral business.

Short answer

What should I check on a used POS system for sale?

Before buying a used POS system, confirm the exact model with the processor that would activate it. Check ownership, account locks, software licensing, security support, accessories, and written return terms. Hardware that powers on may still be unusable for your business if activation or software access is unavailable.

Confirm the exact device and activation

Ask for clear photos of the model label and device identifiers. Send those details privately to your intended processor and ask whether it will activate that specific unit for your account. Do not rely on a listing that says it works with any processor.

Ask whether the device is locked to a processor or tied to a lease. A seller having possession does not establish the right to sell it or your ability to activate it.

Check software and security support

Find out whether the software license transfers with the hardware. Account access, restaurant menus, reporting, and integrations may require a separate agreement. Request confirmation from the software provider instead of assuming the seller can transfer access.

Ask when security support ends and whether required updates remain available. Confirm that your processor accepts the device in its current condition. Older working hardware can still be unsuitable for handling payments.

Inspect the complete package

List every included accessory in writing. Check printers, cash drawers, power supplies, cables, and connections. Ask whether accessories are compatible with your planned software and counter setup.

Request proof of ownership and written return terms before paying. Clarify what happens if activation fails, who handles return shipping, and whether you can test the unit. Keep the listing and seller correspondence for your records.

Remove data and review your own contract

Require proper factory reset and data removal before taking over the equipment. Do not ask for access to the previous merchant’s account or customer records. Follow the provider’s reset procedure, then confirm readiness with your processor.

Selling your old system? Check your lease or contract first. Confirm ownership, transfer restrictions, and required data removal before listing it.

We offer a free statement review, not equipment sales. We read every line of one recent processing statement and explain each fee to help you compare processing and POS options.

Common questions

Still not sure? Ask us directly.

Does a powered on terminal prove it will work?

No. Activation, software access, and processor compatibility must be checked separately. Ask for written confirmation tied to the exact device.

Do software licenses transfer automatically?

Do not assume so. Ask the software provider what transfers and what requires a new account or agreement.

What should the seller remove?

The seller should follow the provider’s factory reset and data removal instructions. You should not receive access to another merchant’s payment or customer records.

Do you sell used equipment?

No. We are a processing referral business. We can help you assess processing and POS needs, but equipment purchases are handled elsewhere.
