Clover POS guide
Clover Flex for Daily Service
Clover Flex is a handheld with a built in receipt printer for taking payment where the customer is. It can suit staff moving between tables, a pickup area or a crowded counter. Start with the route staff actually walk, rather than assuming a handheld will fit every part of service.
Short answer
What is Clover Flex used for?
Clover Flex brings payment and a built in receipt printer into a handheld device. It can fit tableside service, line busting, curbside pickup, delivery and counter service. Confirm the exact model, accessories and processor lock with the seller before deciding how it will work alongside your existing checkout.
Match the handheld to the service route
At tableside, think about where staff stand while a guest pays and where the receipt goes afterward. For line busting, decide who takes payment and who hands over the order. A handheld needs a clear role so customers do not get sent between staff without knowing whether they have paid.
Curbside and delivery require a separate look at the places where payment happens. Patios, food trucks and events also change the working environment. Ask the seller to confirm suitability for your actual locations rather than treating a successful demonstration at the counter as proof that every route will work.
Check coverage and daily handling
Check wifi coverage wherever staff walk, including the patio, pickup area and any route away from the main counter. Discuss delivery locations with the seller and confirm how the proposed model would support that workflow. Do not assume coverage beyond the areas you have checked.
- Set a charging routine and name the staff member responsible for returning devices after service.
- Ask which drop cases fit the exact model and what accessories are included.
- Work out how many units each shift needs by looking at overlapping payment requests.
- Choose a storage place that staff can reach without blocking the service area.
Use Flex beside a Station or Mini
A Flex can serve as a second device for counter service while the main checkout remains in place. Ask the seller to demonstrate the proposed pairing with a Station or Mini. Walk through a payment handoff and receipt request using your intended setup before agreeing to the equipment list.
Write down who carries each handheld during a shift and who takes over during breaks. At events, decide where devices return between transactions. These small routines help you judge whether the handheld role is useful without relying on promises about features that have not been confirmed.
Read the seller terms before buying
Clover devices are often tied to the processor or bank that sold them. Confirm the processor lock and ask whether the device can move if you change providers. Read any lease and early termination terms before signing, including what happens when you stop using the equipment.

A patio is a possible use case. Check wifi coverage along the full service route and ask the seller to confirm that the proposed setup fits your location.
How should we choose the number of handhelds?
Look at how often staff need to take payments at the same time. Include shift changes, charging routines and the role of your main counter device in that discussion.
Can a used Flex move to another processor?
Do not assume it can. Confirm the processor lock with the seller before purchase and get the answer in writing. Review any lease obligations separately.
