Clover POS guide
Clover POS: Start With the Seller
Clover POS combines payment hardware with software for taking orders and managing sales. Banks and processors sell it with their own agreements. Start with the seller and the contract, not just the device on the counter. A familiar screen does not mean familiar costs or terms.
Short answer
What is Clover POS?
Clover POS is a payment and sales system offered through banks and processors. Your seller sets the processing rate and contract, and often the hardware and software pricing. Compare the complete agreement, including device restrictions, monthly plans and app charges, before deciding whether a particular setup fits your business.
Who sells Clover and why costs differ
A bank or processor may offer the same Clover device under a different package. Hardware ownership, software access, processing markup and cancellation terms can all change. Merchants using matching equipment can therefore pay different amounts without either statement being incorrect.
Ask which company handles processing, which company supplies support and which company bills for equipment. Keep those names with the signed agreement. If a salesperson describes a bundled price, request a written breakdown so you know what continues after the equipment is paid for.
Choose a device around the job
Watch how staff take orders and collect payment during a busy shift. Counter space, tableside service and customer checkout flow matter more than a device photo. Confirm the exact model and included accessories with the seller.
- Clover Flex is a handheld with a built in receipt printer for tableside payments, line busting, delivery and counter service.
- Clover Mini is a compact countertop device for small counters, cafes and quick service, and can work alongside other stations.
- Clover Station Duo is a full countertop station with merchant and customer facing screens for busier counters and restaurants.
Check the agreement before signing
Clover devices are often tied to the bank or processor that supplied them. Ask whether the proposed hardware can move to another processor later. Get that answer in writing before buying used equipment or accepting a replacement device.
- Confirm whether you own the hardware or have a lease with a separate cancellation obligation.
- Check the monthly plan against the features staff actually need.
- Request a list of app add ons, their billing source and how to cancel them.
- Read renewal language and early termination terms rather than relying on a verbal explanation.
Connect the statement to the right topic
On a processing statement, look for software or service charges, device fees and transaction charges. Separate the seller markup from interchange and card network assessments. Check other invoices for equipment leases or app subscriptions that do not appear on that statement.
Each topic has its own page: pricing, fees, comparisons with Square and Toast, restaurants, bars, Flex, Mini, Station Duo and statement fees. Use pricing for the full cost picture, fees for negotiation questions and statement fees for a method of tracing individual lines.
We are a processing referral business, not a Clover partner, and do not sell hardware directly. For a free statement review, upload a recent statement on our contact page. We explain the charges and help you evaluate processing and POS options.
Common questions
Still not sure? Ask us directly.
Does every Clover seller offer the same agreement?
No. Ask each seller for its own processing terms, equipment arrangement and software charges. Compare the written documents rather than assuming the Clover name makes offers equivalent.
Can I move a Clover device to another processor?
Do not assume you can. Hardware is often tied to its original processor or bank. Ask about the exact device before committing to a change.
Does the software plan cover every app?
App subscriptions can create additional charges. Ask which features belong to the plan and which require a separate subscription.
