Peptide Payment Processing for Compliant Sellers
Peptide payment processing is under more pressure today than almost any other online category, because the FDA keeps warning sites that a research use only label does not change what a product is. Underwriters now read peptide sites the way the FDA does. Below is what they check, which products sink a file, and how compliant peptide businesses get approved.
Short answerRead this first
How do I get peptide payment processing?
Sell through a channel the law supports, such as a licensed pharmacy filling prescriptions or a genuine research supplier selling to verified institutions, avoid human use and weight loss claims, and keep unapproved GLP 1 compounds off your site. A peptide payment processor approves on licenses and evidence.
The right setup for peptide merchants
What fits
- A pharmacy or telehealth checkout tied to prescriptions, or a research checkout limited to verified institutions.
Why it matters here
- The FDA has said research use only labels do not change what a product is, so the business model must be clear before you apply.
Most common setup mistakes
- Research use only labels on a consumer site
- Dosing calculators and reconstitution kits next to products
- Selling compounds that cannot be compounded under federal law
Send us one statement and Dewey will tell you if your setup fits your peptide business.
Step 2
Optimized POS and payment setup
We set up checkout for your actual model, whether that is prescriptions, telehealth visits or institutional orders, and keep each on its own account. Every step is documented for underwriting.
Step 3
No long term contracts. No termination fees.
Peptide rules are changing fast, so you need room to adjust. Every account we place comes with no long term contracts and no early termination fees.
Step 4
Keep more of every swipe
Peptide and pharmacy statements often show high risk pricing and registration costs. We read each line and show you where fees are padded.
Research use only is not a shield
In a February 2025 warning letter to an online peptide seller, the FDA said that despite labels such as research use only, not for human consumption and lab purposes only, evidence on the website showed the products were drugs intended for human use. The FDA has sent similar letters to other peptide sites selling semaglutide, tirzepatide and retatrutide under research labels.
Underwriters now look past the disclaimer to the rest of the site: dosing guides, reconstitution calculators, bacteriostatic water bundles, coded product names and customer reviews describing personal results. Any of those can turn a peptide merchant account application into a decline.
Payment flow matters too. Sites that steer buyers to wire transfers, crypto or payment apps after card checkout fails are a known pattern, and reviewers treat a history of alternate payment links as a sign the business already knows its products would not pass.
GLP 1 compounds draw the most scrutiny
The FDA declared the semaglutide injection shortage resolved on February 21, 2025, with grace periods for compounders ending April 22, 2025 for 503A pharmacies and May 22, 2025 for 503B outsourcing facilities. Compounding essentially a copy of an approved drug is now limited again.
The FDA also states that retatrutide and cagrilintide cannot be used in compounding under federal law and are not components of any approved drug. A site selling those compounds to the public is a product an acquirer cannot register as lawful.
Compounding limits on other popular peptides
The FDA keeps a list of bulk drug substances that may present significant safety risks in compounding. BPC 157 is on it, with the FDA citing possible immunogenicity and peptide impurity concerns and little safety information for humans. Several growth hormone releasing peptides are listed for certain routes too.
Peptide clinics and pharmacies should show the underwriter which substances they compound, under which section of the law, and which pharmacy license covers each state they serve.
Which peptide businesses can be underwritten
Licensed pharmacies filling prescriptions, telehealth practices with licensed prescribers, and suppliers selling to verified labs and institutions each have a path. Telehealth and pharmacy files are much stronger with LegitScript certification, which Visa and Mastercard recognize.
Consumer cosmetic peptides in skin care, such as serums and creams, are reviewed like beauty products as long as the claims stay cosmetic. Tell the underwriter clearly which of these models you run, and keep each model on its own account if you run more than one.
Research suppliers should keep purchase orders, institution names and shipping addresses that match a lab or university. Selling single vials to home addresses is the pattern that the FDA letters describe, and it is the first thing a monitoring vendor flags.
What a strong peptide merchant processing file includes
Bring pharmacy or practice licenses, prescriber agreements, LegitScript status, supplier certificates of analysis, a product list with the legal basis for each item, your buyer verification process for research sales and screenshots of every product page.
Remove dosing tools, before and after content and consumer reviews that describe personal injections before you apply. Pharmacy merchant accounts under MCC 5122 or 5912 sold card not present also need registration with Visa and Mastercard, which the acquirer handles.
How we set up a payment processor for peptides
We review your business model, licenses and site against current FDA enforcement, flag what must change, and place the file with acquirers that underwrite pharmacy and research suppliers. Any reserve is set by the acquirer, and every term is shown to you before you sign.
Dewey Kopenga, in payment processing since 2018, reviews every file himself before it goes to underwriting. Send a recent statement and he will explain your current fees item by item.
What to check on your peptide statement
We check these and every other line during a merchant statement analysis. New to statements? Read how to read a merchant statement.
- High risk pricing on prescription orders
- Registration fees billed more than once
- Chargebacks from consumer research orders
- Holds after a product change
Common questions
Still not sure? Ask us directly.
Does a research use only label allow peptide sales?
No. The FDA has said those labels do not change a product's status when the site shows it is meant for human use.
Can I sell compounded semaglutide?
The shortage ended in February 2025, so compounding copies of the approved drug is limited again. Expect close review.
Can retatrutide be compounded?
The FDA states retatrutide cannot be used in compounding under federal law.
Is BPC 157 allowed in compounding?
The FDA lists BPC 157 among bulk substances that may present significant safety risks in compounding.
Does LegitScript help peptide payment processing?
Yes, for pharmacy and telehealth models. Visa and Mastercard recognize LegitScript certification.
