Kratom Merchant Account for Vendors and Shops
A kratom merchant account is one of the harder files in payments, because kratom is sold legally in much of the country while the FDA says no kratom drug product is lawfully on the market. Underwriters live in that gap. This guide explains what they check, why 7 OH products changed the conversation, and how kratom vendors get approved.
Short answerRead this first
How do I get a kratom merchant account?
Sell plain leaf kratom with no medical claims, keep 7 OH and other concentrated alkaloid products off your menu, block shipping to places that ban kratom, verify age, and provide lab tests for every batch. Underwriters approve kratom credit card processing on documents, not promises.
The right setup for kratom merchants
What fits
- A checkout with state shipping blocks, age verification and product pages free of health claims.
Why it matters here
- Kratom is legal in much of the country but banned in some places, so the shipping map is as important as the product.
Most common setup mistakes
- Shipping to states or cities that ban kratom
- Selling 7 OH products
- Health claims in product descriptions or reviews

Step 2
Optimized POS and payment setup
We set up shipping blocks, age checks and batch records so your store reads clean to underwriting. Counter sales in a shop get their own terminal setup.
Step 3
No long term contracts. No termination fees.
Kratom rules can change quickly, so you need room to move. Every account we place comes with no long term contracts and no early termination fees.
Step 4
Keep more of every swipe
Kratom statements often show steep high risk pricing and extra compliance fees. We break down every charge so you know where the money goes.
What the FDA says about kratom
Kratom comes from Mitragyna speciosa, a tree native to Southeast Asia. The FDA states there are no prescription or over the counter drug products containing kratom or its known alkaloids legally on the market in the United States, and it regularly acts against companies making false or misleading health claims about kratom.
The FDA estimates about 1.7 million Americans aged 12 and older used kratom in 2021. It also lists reported risks, including liver injury, seizures and substance use disorder. Any mention of treating pain, anxiety or opioid withdrawal turns a kratom product into an unapproved drug claim, and an underwriter will read your site looking for exactly that language.
Why 7 OH changed kratom merchant processing
On July 29, 2025 the FDA recommended scheduling certain 7 hydroxymitragynine products under the Controlled Substances Act. 7 OH occurs naturally in kratom leaves as a minor alkaloid, under 2 percent of the total, but the FDA says it binds opioid receptors far more strongly than mitragynine. The DEA has final authority and must complete a rulemaking.
The FDA has also sent warning letters to companies distributing 7 OH tablets, gummies, drink mixes and shots, and it has seized 7 OH products. For acquirers, concentrated or synthetic 7 OH is now the line between a kratom vendor they can review and one they will decline outright. Keep it off your site and say so in writing.
State and local bans shape your shipping map
The FDA notes that states may have their own regulations or prohibitions for kratom, and state health and law enforcement agencies are the best source on those laws. Several states and cities restrict or ban its sale, and the list changes. Your checkout must block every banned location, and your policy should say how often you review that list.
Underwriters will ask for that list and may test it. A kratom ecommerce payment processing account that ships into a banned state is an illegal transaction, which can lead to termination and a listing on the networks' terminated merchant files.
Product, label and testing evidence
Bring batch level lab results that test for alkaloid content, heavy metals and microbes. Labels should list the product name, net weight, serving guidance, a minimum age, your business contact and no health claims.
Wholesale suppliers' invoices and country of origin records help too. Reviewers want to see a predictable product line, not a rotating menu of extracts and blends.
Storefront and online kratom sellers are reviewed differently
A shop selling kratom over the counter alongside other goods is underwritten for card present risk, with age checks at the register. A website that ships nationwide adds state law exposure, card not present fraud and chargebacks from customers who did not expect the charge descriptor.
If you run both, consider separate accounts so a dispute spike online does not threaten the counter. Tell the acquirer about every sales channel, including marketplaces and subscription refills.
Kratom merchant processing for wholesale buyers should also record each buyer's business license and resale certificate, since a wholesale account that quietly ships to consumers changes the risk the acquirer approved.
How we set up kratom credit card processing
We review your menu, labels, lab reports and shipping restrictions, remove the items that would sink the file, and place it with acquirers that already underwrite kratom. Any reserve is set by the acquirer, and every term is shown to you before you sign.
Dewey Kopenga, in payment processing since 2018, reviews every file himself before it goes to underwriting. Send a recent statement and he will explain your current fees item by item.
What to check on your kratom statement
We check these and every other line during a merchant statement analysis. New to statements? Read how to read a merchant statement.
- High risk rates on counter sales
- Compliance or monitoring fees with no detail
- Chargebacks from unrecognized descriptors
- Holds after a change in product line
Common questions
Still not sure? Ask us directly.
Is kratom legal to sell?
Kratom is sold legally in much of the country, but some states and cities ban it, and the FDA says no kratom drug product is legally on the market.
Can I sell 7 OH products with a kratom merchant account?
Most acquirers decline 7 OH products. The FDA recommended scheduling them in July 2025 and has seized 7 OH products.
What health claims can kratom vendors make?
None. Claims about treating pain, anxiety or withdrawal make the product an unapproved drug in the FDA's view.
Do I need lab tests for kratom credit card processing?
Underwriters expect batch lab results for alkaloid content and contaminants such as heavy metals and microbes.
How do I handle states that ban kratom?
Block those locations at checkout, keep a written list and review it on a schedule as laws change.
