Short answerRead this first

How do I get a forex merchant account?

Show your registration status, such as NFA membership as a retail foreign exchange dealer or introducing broker, plus your customer agreement, risk disclosures, KYC and AML procedures, withdrawal policy and marketing samples. The acquirer then registers the account under MCC 6211 with the card networks.

The right setup for forex merchants

What fits

A deposit gateway with KYC before the first deposit, 3D Secure and refunds back to the original card.

Why it matters here

Trading deposits are reviewed like a regulated financial product, so licensing and money flow come first.

Most common setup mistakes

  • Accepting deposits before identity is verified
  • Third party cards funding a trading account
  • Marketing with guaranteed return claims

Send us one statement and Dewey will tell you if your setup fits your forex business.

  • Step 2

    Optimized POS and payment setup

We set up deposits, withdrawals and identity checks so every dollar can be traced to a verified client. The setup is mapped for underwriting before it goes live.

  • Step 3

No long term contracts. No termination fees.

Trading firms need to adjust as rules change, and a long contract blocks that. We work with no long term contracts and no early termination fees.

  • Step 4

    Keep more of every swipe

Forex statements often include cross border fees, high risk pricing and per deposit charges. We show you what each deposit really costs.

Licensing comes first

Under the Commodity Exchange Act, a firm that acts as counterparty to off exchange retail forex trades with someone who is not an eligible contract participant must be an authorized counterparty, such as a registered retail foreign exchange dealer. The NFA says every registered RFED must be an NFA member and designated a Forex Dealer Member, with a 500 dollar application fee and annual dues.

People who solicit orders, give trading advice or run pools in retail forex must also register, as introducing brokers, commodity trading advisors or pool operators. An underwriter will look up your NFA ID before reading anything else. Offshore brokers serving US residents without registration should expect a decline.

Network registration for MCC 6211

Visa lists trading under MCC 6211 in Tier 3 of its integrity risk program, and Mastercard's specialty merchant registration covers card not present securities and trading merchants under the same code. The acquirer must register the account and certify the activity is lawful.

That process costs the acquirer money and adds monitoring, which is why many processors avoid forex payment solution requests completely. Firms that arrive with clean licensing and documentation are far easier for an acquirer to justify.

Why forex payment processing draws disputes

The CFTC's forex fraud advisory warns that the market is volatile, that customers can lose most or all of their money very quickly, and that fraudsters use promises of guaranteed returns and false urgency. Customers who lose money sometimes dispute deposits as unauthorized or claim the service was misrepresented.

Clear risk disclosures before the first deposit, recorded consent, no guaranteed profit language and fast, documented withdrawals are what win those disputes. Signal sellers and copy trading products face the same scrutiny, since performance claims are the content most likely to mislead.

Keep deposit and withdrawal records tied to each client ticket. When a cardholder claims they never authorized a deposit, a log showing the login, the device, the identity check and the trades placed afterward is usually what reverses the dispute.

KYC, AML and payment flow

Underwriters expect identity verification before the first deposit, matching of the cardholder name to the trading account, limits on third party funding, and refunds to the original card where possible. Explain how you screen against sanctions lists and how you spot structured deposits.

A forex brokers payment gateway should support 3D Secure, velocity limits and real time fraud scoring. Map your money flow in a simple diagram showing where client funds sit and how they move, because reviewers ask whether card deposits touch segregated client accounts.

Marketing reviewers will read

Affiliate and influencer campaigns are where most trouble starts. Keep a library of approved ads, ban income screenshots and guaranteed return claims, and monitor partners. The acquirer's monitoring vendor will scan your site and may scan affiliate pages too.

Publish your risk disclosure where clients see it before funding, along with fees, spreads and withdrawal timelines. Consistency between your site, your customer agreement and your sales scripts is what makes a forex trading merchant account file credible.

Educational content is welcome, but separate it from sales. A free course that ends in a funded account offer with countdown timers looks to a reviewer like the pressure tactics regulators describe.

How we set up payment gateway for forex firms

We check your registration status, disclosures, KYC flow and marketing, close the gaps, and place the file with acquirers that already register MCC 6211 merchants. Any reserve is set by the acquirer, and every term is shown to you before you sign.

Dewey Kopenga, in payment processing since 2018, reviews every file himself before it goes to underwriting. Send a recent statement and he will explain your current fees item by item.

What to check on your forex statement

We check these and every other line during a merchant statement analysis. New to statements? Read how to read a merchant statement.

  • Cross border fees on domestic clients
  • Per deposit fees on top of the rate
  • Chargebacks from losing traders
  • Holds tied to withdrawal volume
